Citizen science in science communication

Tuesday, 25 November 2025, 12:30-13:15
Participation (via Zoom)

Mag. Dr.rer.nat. Heide Beranek-Knauer

Playful knowledge transfer using the example of "Exit the Ribosome"

In cooperation with the Graz Open Laboratory and the Institute of Molecular Biosciences, an FWF-funded Wisskomm project helped to utilise pupils as citzen scientists. The highly complex topic of ribosome biogenesis and protein biosynthesis was thus presented in a playful way, resulting in an escape game for everyone. The aspects of Citizen Science are presented in the lecture.

Heide Beranek-Knauer works as a microbiologist at the University of Graz. In her role at the Open Laboratory Graz at the University of Graz, she encourages scientific curiosity in children and young people in her courses and is involved in communicating knowledge to the public.
